February 2017 Meeting Announcement:

CenterPoint Energy offers a variety of energy efficiency programs that are designed to reduce electricity demand growth within the 5,000 square-mile area surrounding Houston, Texas, that is served by CenterPoint’s regulated electric transmission and distribution utility (“TDU”). The presentation will provide an overview of these programs.

In 1999, the Texas Legislature passed a law that made it possible for consumers in most parts of Texas to choose their own retail electric provider. Under this law, regulated Transmission and Distribution Utility companies, or TDUs, deliver electricity to homes and businesses, read meters, respond to service interruptions, and maintain the poles and wires, regardless of which company is selling electricity to the customer. The legislation that restructured the Texas electricity market also required TDUs to meet certain energy efficiency goals. The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) subsequently issued energy efficiency rule that established procedures for meeting these goals.

CenterPoint Energy and other investor-owned TDUs in Texas sponsor energy efficiency and load management programs to comply with the PUCT energy efficiency rules.
